Have to agree with you on that. I mean sure, C&C 3 was quite fun but it wasn't really that blast that for example C&C TD or even C&C TS managed to archieve, even though I wasn't all that fond of TS it was still quite cool when it finally came. It had its own dark atmospehere that you loved to hate
A real shame Frank K. wasn't doing any of the tracks to C&C 3 too, the music was too plain and didn't really stick out. Now when I'm playing the expansion I'm starting to get real annoyed at the repeating music (build theme, combat theme, victory theme, defeated theme).
While I haven't really been blown away from all that I have seen of Red Alert 3 so far, I'm also hoping for it to be a good game that manage to stick out so much that it doesn't turn into C&C 3 but with Russia (Nod), Allies (GDI) and Asia (Scrin) (and also that it has a more distinct music selection).
